Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for dedicated volunteers who are interested in helping make Allison's dreams come true. Please contact Barbara Beiser with interest.
Anyone can help raise money for the Stink Bug Project!
Stink Bug project costs include paying for the dog's adoption from the prison and a few necessities for the dog. $200 buys a crate, two big bags of dog food, a collar, leash, blankets, bowls, collar, and a dog bed for a Stink Bug dog. $500 will pay for the adoption fee. And $750 will pay for all of these items plus the adoption.
We accept monetary donations of any kind. Checks can be made out to The Stink Bug Project and mailed in care of The Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation, 2055 High Street, Suite 240, Denver, CO 80205.
Wish List
Farmers Market Program Support - $600
The Farmers Market is an ideal way to spread the word about the Stink Bug Project, reach out to additional volunteers, and sell dog biscuits and other Stink Bug items such as T-shirts, leashes, and dog bowls. Support for this program would include the following:
- Purchase a tent and table for the booth: $250
- Pay for rental space at markets ($25 for non-profit organizations for a maximum number of six markets): $150
- Miscellaneous materials needed for booth (banner, brochures, business cards, etc.): $200
- Optional: Provide support to purchase T-shirts and other items for resale
Individual Adoptions: $750 per adoption
Donors who pledge $750 for an adoption receive a certificate and photo of the child and dog they sponsored. Each dog adoption costs $750 and includes the following:
- Adoption fee to the K-9 Companion Program which includes 8 weeks of intensive obedience training
- Crate, leash, bowl, collar, and care items for the dog
- Large bag of dog food
- $100 gift certificate to Petsmart or Petco
- Shots, heartworm preventative, and other basic vet care needs have also been provided by the K-9 Companion Program before the adoption
Semi-Annual or Annual Stink Bug Adoption Support: $3,500-$7,000 to fund five to ten adoptions
This unique partnership between the Stink Bug Project and the K-9 Companion Program of Colorado Correctional Industries features a careful process to find the right dog for a child and family. Cancer affects all family members, and a dog can help relieve the stress of a mom who wants a running companion or an older brother or sister who is feeling left out while their sibling gets all of the attention.
All dogs are rescued from Colorado shelters or are given to the program by families that can no longer care for them. All are hand picked for the kids who apply for a dog with the Stink Bug Project. They are trained as companions, not therapy dogs. If a family should need additional training after the pet is placed in the home, the staff of the K-9 Program continue to work with the family to fix any issues. If a family is unable to care for the dog, it can be returned to the K-9 Program. The Stink Bug Project places approximately ten dogs each year. A gift of $3,500 would ensure that five adoptions can take place and would provide the project with financial stability to ensure that Allison's goal can be met. $7,000 would provide essential support to ensure the project can meet its annual goal of giving ten dogs to cancer patients and their families.
Annual or Semi-Annual Stink Bug Dog Biscuits Support - $600 - $1,200
The Stink Bug dog biscuits are a wonderful way to reach out to people who might be interested in making a difference to the program. But a lot of biscuits have to be sold to make enough for one adoption. Support of the dog biscuit program would ensure the essence of the Stink Bug Project (baking and selling dog biscuits with the help of children and volunteers) remains intact. There are significant costs associated with preparing, bagging, and labeling the biscuits for sale. Stink Bug has generous donors who provide most of our ingredients, but we would like to find a sponsor for the kitchen rental on a semi-annual or annual basis.
*Please contact Brianna about donation options.
